What POLAR does
with your data.

POLAR is a focus tool for studying. This policy describes what data POLAR collects, how it is used, and what leaves your device.

Last updated: April 24, 2026

What POLAR does on your device

POLAR uses your webcam to detect your gaze while you study. All gaze processing happens locally in your browser using MediaPipe. The camera feed is never encoded, buffered, stored, or transmitted. POLAR measures facial landmarks, eye aspect ratio, gaze direction, and head orientation in real time, entirely on your device.

What POLAR sends off your device

When POLAR generates a response — a retention question during a distracted moment, a paragraph rephrase during a stuck moment, or a session recap when you finish studying — it sends the following to Anthropic's Claude API via our servers:

  • A state label (focused, distracted, or stuck)
  • A confidence score
  • The text of the paragraph you are currently reading

Nothing else is transmitted. No images, no video, no biometric data, no facial landmarks, no gaze coordinates.

What POLAR stores

If you use POLAR without an account, all session data stays in your browser's local storage and is never uploaded anywhere. It remains on your device only.

If you sign in with a POLAR account, your session data — session start and end times, focused and distracted durations, the paragraphs that triggered interventions, and generated recaps — is uploaded to our database hosted on Supabase so you can review your history and weekly reports in the POLAR dashboard. This data is associated with your user account and is only accessible to you.

What POLAR does not do

  • POLAR does not sell data.
  • POLAR does not share data with third parties for advertising.
  • POLAR does not track your browsing outside of active study sessions.
  • POLAR does not access page content outside the specific paragraph involved in a detected state change.

Account data

If you create an account, we store your email address and authentication credentials through Supabase Auth. You can delete your account and all associated session data at any time from your account settings.

Third-party services

Anthropic

Generates retention questions, paragraph rephrases, and session summaries based on the paragraph text you send when an intervention fires.

Supabase

Stores your account and session data if you are signed in.

Google (MediaPipe)

The face-landmark model runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to Google.

Your rights

You can export your data or delete your account at any time from your POLAR account settings. If you have questions about this policy, contact hello@polarstudytool.com.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be announced to signed-in users via email.
